chania: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave every hour between 5.30am and 9.30pm. The trip lasts 3 hours. Price: Full - around 15 euros 

 

rethymno: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave every hour between 5.30am and 9.30pm. The trip lasts 1.5 hour. Price: Full - around 8 euros

 

agios nikolaos: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave very often between 6.30am and 11.15pm. The trip lasts 1.5 hour, and the ticket costs around 8 euros.

 

sitia: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave very often in the morning (7 - 11am), but not so much in the afternoon. The trip lasts 3 hours, and the ticket costs 16 euros.

 

ierapetra: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave very often in the morning (7 - 12am), but not so much in the afternoon. The trip lasts 2.5 hours, and the ticket costs 12 euros.

 

chrissi island: take the intercity bus to Ierapetra, and take a ferry from the port to Chrissi.

 

santorini - cyclades: for Santorini and the rest of the Cyclades, you take the ferry from the port of Heraklion. From the hostel you can either walk (around 25min), take a taxi (around 6-7 euros), or take a bus (red line that leaves from Kamaraki stop).

 

zeus cave: take the bus to Psychro from he central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). There’s only a few buses per day on weekdays, and only one bus in the weekend so make sure to plan ahead, especially of you don’t want to spend the night there.  The trip takes around two hours and the ticket costs 6.50 euros.

 

hersonissos & malia: take the bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave very often between 6am and 11pm. The trip lasts 45 minutes to 1 hour, and the ticket costs around 4 euros.

 

ammoudara beach: take bus number 6 direction ‘Ammoudara’ from the Kamaraki stop in Kalokerinou street (the main road). Trip takes around 15-20 minutes. Βuses run very often, and the ticket costs 1.20 euro.

 

matala: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). There’s only two buses on weekdays (except on Matalla Festival where there’s a lot more). The trip lasts around 2 hours, and tickets cost 8.50 euros. Getting back to Heraklion with the bus is very hard as well so plan carefully.

 

phaistos: same bus that goes to Matala! 

 

arhchanes - youchtas - wine country: take the intercity bus from the central KTEL station (accross the street from McDonald’s). Buses leave very often between 6.30am and 9.10pm. The trip lasts 30 minutes, and the ticket costs 2 euros.

 

anogia - psiloritis: take the intercity bus from the Chanioporta KTEL station (not the main one near the coast). There’s very few buses and only until early in the afternoon (2pm). The trip lasts around 1 hour, and tickets cost 4.10 euros. Buses back to Heraklion run very rarely as well so plan ahead.

 

elafonissi - pink sand beach: to get to Elafonissis, first you have to get to Chania with the intercity bus (KTEL). From the Chania KTEL station you can catch a bus to Elafonissi only at 9am, and it costs 11 euros. Your best bet is to go there as part of an organised tour from the hostel!

 

balos: to get to Balos, first you have to get to Chania with the intercity bus (KTEL). From there, you have to go to Kissamos with another bus to catch a ferry. We suggest you save yourself the hassle and book an organised tour from our hostel!

 

vai palm forest: take the intercity bus to Sitia, and change buses in the Sitia KTEL station. The trip length is over 3 hours, so we suggest you save yourself the hassle and book an organised tour from our hostel!
